ISLAND BAY FOOTBALL CLUB
Floodlight upgrade for winter football
We replaced the club's ageing metal-halide floods with LED towers built for Wellington weather. Instant-on, even coverage across both pitches, and a power bill that finally makes sense for a community club.
THE BRIEF
Why the old floods had to go
Island Bay Football Club runs training four nights a week through winter and hosts weekend night matches. The old metal-halide floods were no longer up to it: patchy coverage across the far pitch, a slow warm-up every time they switched on, and a running cost the club could not keep absorbing.
Half the heads had drifted out of aim over the years, leaving dark patches near the wings where most of the play happens. Replacing lamps one at a time had become a recurring cost with no lasting fix.

HOW IT RAN
Four stages, no disruption to training
Each tower went in, got aimed, and was tested before the next one started.

- Before01Survey and light plan
We mapped the existing light levels across both pitches and modelled the LED layout to hit even coverage with no dark wings.
- On site02Tower by tower
Each LED flood tower was installed and brought online one at a time, so the club kept training right through the works.
- Per tower03Aim and test
Every head aimed to the plan and tested under match conditions, not just switched on and left to guesswork.
- Final04Handover
Controls handed over with a simple on/off schedule and a clear rundown of the new running costs for the committee.
