Painter mixing colour on a job site

GET A QUOTE

A fixed-price quote within 48 hours

Tell us about the job. We come for a 20-40 minute look, then send a written quote you can compare against any other painter.

WHAT YOU GET

Every quote includes

  • Itemised scope

Stage by stage — prep, primer, top coats, cut-in, clean-up. Labour estimate against each stage. Square metres by surface.

  • Named products

The exact Resene or Dulux product line and code we are spec'ing. No 'premium acrylic', no whatever-is-on-sale.

  • Timeline

Working day count plus weather days for exterior. Earliest start date and target completion.

  • Warranty terms

7 years workmanship, 10-15 years product (registered with the manufacturer). Spelled out, not in fine print.

  • A name and a number

The painter who quoted you. Direct mobile. No call centre, no project-manager-by-email.

  • Fixed price

If we hit unexpected scope mid-job, you hear about it the day we see it — never at invoice time. Quoted number is the number you pay.

QUOTE FAQ

Most asked questions about quoting

  • How do you price a job?

Square metres of paintable surface times a per-m² rate that varies by surface type (smooth wall vs textured ceiling vs weatherboard vs roof), plus a fixed prep allowance based on the condition we walk into.

We don't quote by 'rooms' or 'days' — those numbers hide variation. The quote shows m², product, and labour separately so you can compare like-for-like with other painters.

  • Do you supply the paint or do I?

We supply it. We get trade pricing from Resene and Dulux and pass the trade discount through on the quote — you'd pay more buying it retail yourself.

If you've already bought paint or have a specific batch you want used (e.g. matching an earlier job), bring it — we'll work with it. We just can't warrant the colour match if we didn't buy the tin.

  • What's actually included in the quote?

Everything required to deliver the agreed scope: paint and materials, labour, drop sheets, masking, prep (surface wash/sand), application, daily site clean-up, and end-of-job rubbish removal. Specific product brands and codes are itemised.

Not included by default but available as add-ons: minor repairs to plaster or timber, mould treatment beyond normal wash, lead-paint controls (if confirmed by testing), and access scaffolding for heights over 6m. We'll always price these separately so you can see what's discretionary.

  • When do I pay?

Standard residential terms: 20% deposit on commencement, balance on completion. We invoice on completion day; payment is due within 7 working days. We accept bank transfer (preferred) and credit card (small surcharge).

Commercial and body corp work runs on monthly progress claims for jobs over $20k, or invoice-on-completion for smaller scopes. Retentions of 5-10% by arrangement on very large commercial projects.

WHILE YOU WAIT

A few things you can do before the site visit

We do not need this — the site visit handles all of it — but if you want the quote estimate to be sharper from the start, two things help.

First: any photos of the rooms or exterior elevations, even from your phone. Helps us pre-think the prep level and scope before we are on site.

Second: a clear sense of what 'done' looks like. Same colour or new palette? Just the walls or trim too? Wallpaper coming off or staying? Any rooms you want skipped? Anything bothering you about the current paintwork that needs solving?

If you have a strict deadline (selling the house, new tenants moving in, body corp AGM), tell us at the first call so we can pre-check our schedule. Bookings are usually 2-6 weeks out depending on season.
