Eastbourne coastal exterior

Client Private — Eastbourne

Direct-harbour-exposure weatherboard, full salt-rated spec including zinc primer on all steel fittings and an extra rinse pass before priming.

Architect-designed cedar-and-weatherboard home in Eastbourne, sitting 40m back from the high-tide line. The previous paint job was a standard inland spec; failed at five years on the harbour-facing elevation.

Stripped the failed paint on the east and south faces, treated rust on all steel fixings, replaced four sets of fascia brackets with stainless equivalents. Two coats of Resene X-200 in Resene Half Tea, applied over a fresh-water rinse to clear salt residue from the substrate.

Manufacturer warranty capped at 10 years for the coastal exposure; our workmanship cover stays at 7. Owners had a $4k discussion with us about whether stainless on the brackets was worth it — yes, on a 40-year horizon.
